With the explosion of Enterprise, Web 2.0, Social Networking, Peer2Peer and a host of other cloud applications, IT and Security Administrators require heightened visibility of network traffic to determine which applications are allowed in and out of the network. Vineyard’s Application Intelligence SDK provides the tools needed to quickly and efficiently add Application Classification technology to your existing firewall or UTM appliance.
In order to increase productivity and application performance across the WAN you need visibility into what is happening across the network. Adding application intelligence to your WAN optimization platform creates a better understanding of the actual applications on the network. More visibility means more control, which results in increased optimization of the WAN.
The next generation Application Delivery Controller is Application Intelligent. Using Vineyard’s application classification technology, you can manage and direct traffic based not only on where a user is going or coming from but on the applications that are being used and how. It can be easily integrated into the ADC platform, reducing time to market, the costs of development and routine updates and maintenance.
The ability to classify various types of Web-based applications is quickly becoming a priority for telecom vendors. Accurate classification is essential to network operations and management, service differentiation, mobile traffic optimization and overall cost reduction. Using Application Intelligence solutions enables telecom vendors to achieve real-time, accurate application classification without the burden of in-house development, maintenance or regular updates.
Lawful Interception requires real-time visibility of network data to ensure the protection of network infrastructure. The rise of web-based applications has made this increasingly important. Integrating Application Intelligence solutions provides a more in-depth set of interception data, including vital statistical information about subscribers and application usage. Added visibility means higher quality interception data.
The increasing security demand associated with an ever-growing number of web-based applications poses a new challenge for IT and Security Administrators. The solution: combining Application Intelligence technology with Network Access Control platforms. Using application classification, IT staff can accurately identify network application usage for individual users and in turn create stronger security policies tailored to the needs of the organization.
Looking to add Application Intelligence into your networking solution?
Vineyard Networks’ Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) is an SDK providing real-time application layer classification of network traffic designed for integration into third party solutions (OEM). NAVL uses a combination of deep packet (DPI) and deep flow (DFI) inspection to accurately identify thousands of today’s common applications such as Social Networking, P2P, Instant Messaging, File Sharing, Enterprise applications, Web 2.0 and more. NAVL is delivered as an OEM solution to dramatically reduce the time, cost, and complexity of adding layer-7 classification to your networking solution.
Application Identification, Attributes, and Metadata
NAVL provides deep intelligence for every IP flow beginning with the full Application Stack for the flow. A YouTube connection would be identified with the full protocol stack from Ethernet to YouTube and each layer would contain attributes. The YouTube Application would associate with the Metadata details for YouTube.

The NAVL engine extracts Application Attributes at each layer of the Stack. Attributes are extracted from the data flow from headers or from content within the packet. Examples of these attributes are email addresses, phone numbers from a VoIP flow, Google search terms, URL's, content types, and hundreds more.
Application Metadata is provided for each Application, including details like App Category, description, threat and productivity indexes, and more. This Metadata can be used to apply policies, provide details for reporting, or for user-interface and configuration screens.
Flexible Signature Plug-Ins

A dynamic signature plug-in interface allows new application plug-ins to be added, updated, or removed at run time.
A custom application definition interface allows partners or end-users to easily add new, custom applications for internal or business specific apps.
